1. Write about what you love to do sounds like a no brainer but many people go for profit over passion.
2. Find a Non-Profit in the topics you dig doing. Help them. Network with them. Learn from them. Why not help others in your niche, I can tell you helping a Non-Profit means exactly that no profit, these people are doing it because they love it.

What is the most common mistake people make when trying to earn an income online?

In one word it could be called greed.

In other words, people look at earning Big Dollars by selling the latest and greatest get rich product instead of looking inside themselves and asking what they really love to do for fun or as a hobby.

Many people start off by selling products they know nothing about and have no interest in. In a high percentage of cases, people try to sell Internet Marketing and Social Media products even though they have no practical experience or knowledge of the many different skill sets involved.

What usually happens is: After 90-120 days, people see no money, become discouraged and give up. This situation is even worse when the person has already invested money into products or training. Also, let us not forget about family and friends who are seeing that person go through the disappointment. This can add stress to relationships and cause you to give up at the very beginning of the your hoped-for financial independence.

How to avoid this pitfall?

#1: Start your first series of websites about a subject or subjects you are PASSIONATE about. Ask yourself this question: If you had enough money to do anything you wanted what would that thing be?

#2: Your first series of websites should be about a subject, or subjects, which you LOVE. It is much more enjoyable to create content such as an article, Podcast or Video about a subject you know about and enjoy learning more about. Do you really want to create a work from home income that becomes just another JOB?

#3: Take a day and just DREAM. Imagine that you have enough money so that you never have to work again. Then (this is VERY important) ask the people you love what they are passionate about. If there is a common interest, make sure to use that as one of your initial website topics.

3. Do you want to build a business you can pass on to your family or loved ones?

4. Are you willing to invest 15-20 hours a week into building your online presence for 12-24 months initially?

5. Are you willing to openly involve your loved ones. Have you considered is there a mutual subject you both or all love doing?

6. Are you willing to Network with help and learn from a Non-Profit in your niche?

The point is if you start your online business about a subject you love your road will be less bumpy. Most people jump online and try to sell Internet Marketing products. What is wrong with this idea? First they have no idea about the subject second when they do not make any income they begin to feel all the IM info is hogwash so they get dejected and quit.

My Answers

1. As I get older it seems time passes faster. I have always wanted to earn a living from my Laptop helping and learning about subjects I am passionate about. (My short list Helping cool people with Internet Marketing, Gardening, Alternative Energy, Veterans Benefits, and Homesteading.

2. Being a “Gentlemen Farmer”, and Technology activist for Non-Profits.

3. Yes I have no children but lots of family and many, many good people I have met in this journey. I would not be writing this if not for hundreds of great people I have met and learned from along the path.

4. I love doing this “Internet Marketing” thing, so I will do this forever. If I am not “Working for the man” I am on the computer, networking, and always learning in the warmer weather gardening. (To see some of our gardening videos check out our Gardening Non-Profit You Tube channel)

5. Years ago my family was supportive out of concern they always warned me keep my day job. Expect this and I agree with this. My family knows more about Internet Marketing then 98% of the population and I look forward in the near future to building many different websites based around mutual interests. I would suggest involving everyone, perhaps you have a child who is creative and one who digs computers, let your family members do what they like doing and build from there.

6 From this journey I have gained balance, and optimism, the “small stuff” does not bother me as much. If it had not been for helping the Food for Everyone Foundation I might just have given up on the Internet. The Foundation made it fun again and I knew the work I was doing was important. It gave me purpose in life again.

You will be tempted to go with a niche such as Forex or some cancer related niche, because you can earn big money ask yourself this question. Are you passionate about the niche you are working in? If not change your niche, making a living from home is no jopke it is hard work and doesnt it make sense to work in a niche you enjoy? It certainly will make the bumps in the road less jarring.

With the AS payments going way down what is a person to do? Affiliate sales my friends, it is easier to earn per sale then per click most of the time, however the best idea is to have a combination of 5-7 revenue streams with at least 4 of them being evergreen and passive. A good example of this would be Squidoo you can earn a share of ad revenue and sell affiliate products on your lenses. If you want the whole sale use your own affiliate codes or you can sue Squidoos affiliate modules such as Amazon and share the revenue with Squidoo.

Here is the problem is Google can sell ad space why can't everyone else?

To go after people who have bought links for their site is wrong, yes it allows people to game the system a bit but we can not penalize a person when the search engines are doing it themselves. There are many companies out there that do nothing but purchase links for their customers is it fair to hurt these companies?

Until there is an equal system I will continue to lean towards cautious ad buying as another piece of the Internet marketing

I was doing a search for some partime work from home oppourtunities and ran accross

I took an hour and looked over the site, wow this is pretty cool they have some actual real positions listed. I would like to retire in the next 3 years so I am looking at creating multiple revenue streams. The idea a person can work whenever they want is also ideal, this allows for a person to work multiple oppourtunities and not get burned out on one. I definately reccommend this website.
